Lil Boosie avoids death penalty

Louisiana bred rapper Lil Boosie received some good news. He will apparently avoid execution in his case. Allhiphop reports:

The trial of rapper Lil Boosie will start on April 30 and the controversy has already started.

Prosecutors have announced that they will use an anonymous jury for the first-degree murder trial of Lil Boosie.

During the trial, jurors will only be identified by numbers and not their names.

Prosecutors said that Lil Boosie will also face a mandatory life sentence if he is convicted of the murder.

The decision to use an anonymous jury was used because of the high-profile nature of the case.

Both prosecutors and Lil Boosie’s lawyers noted that there were no specific security concerns or safety threats.

“It’s just something we thought would be better for the case and the jurors,” East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III told The Advocate.

“There’s no evidence of any threats against any potential jurors in this case,’’ added Martin Regan, one of the rapper’s lawyers. “We want to get a fair jury.”

Prosecutors claim Lil Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, hired Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding to kill 39-year-Terry Boyd, in October 2009.

Also charged in Boyd’s death is Adrian Pittman, 37 and Michael “Marlo Mike’’ Louding, who was 16 at the time of the slaying.

Louding is also accused of murdering five other men.

Lil Boosie is being held in the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

Dwayne Wade's nephew shot in Chicago

It seems as if there was a shooting spree in Chicago that left 13 shot, including Miami Heats own, Dwayne Wade's nephew. USA Today reports:

A nephew of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was shot and wounded in Chicago during a violent stretch in which 13 men were shot, two fatally, in America's 3rd-largest city.

Wade, a native of Chicago, confirmed his nephew was one of six men shot at a convenience store on the city's South Side Thursday night by hooded men who fled in an SUV. One man died at the scene; four were in critical condition. There were three other shooting incidents Thursday in Chicago where gun violence has been on the rise.

Wade's nephew, whose name was not disclosed, was hospitalized as of Friday. Playing with his wounded relative in mind, Wade scored 30 points in the Heat's 113-101 win over the Toronto Raptors Friday night. After the game, Wade said:

"You never expect to a get a call like that...Something I always focus on with my foundation when I go back to Chicago is to do what I can to stop the violence. To have one of your own family members be involved in it, it hurts. I just thank God that he's healthy. ... Thank God he's going to get another chance."

Ambercrombie and Fitch facing backlash over pants ad

Ambercrombie and Fitch Twitter page has been flooded with outrage over "Nigger Brown" Pants ad. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Ever since word of the "ni**er brown" pants hit the news circuit, the massive online backlash that the company has received continues to trudge forward. Tons of users have flooded the retailer's Twitter page demanding an apology for the racist move, yet the company has yet to release an online response to tide those angered by the controversy.

So the question becomes, why is it that Abercrombie wasn't aware of this alleged fake website until now? Surely, there has to be someone on the payroll of a multi-million dollar company whose job is to traffic fraudulent sites at the very least, and be on the lookout for any racist or defamatory content that may be damaging to the company's reputation.

A&F released a statement to TMZ blasting the fake site and proclaiming that they were unaware of the situation, but that's not enough. Given the fact that the Kingsoft Corp., the Chinese-English translation software company behind the incident, has been in business for over 20 years, it seems suspicious that this technological glitch is just now being uncovered.

Perhaps this is less a case of mistaken identity, and more of evidence of a lack of respect for its customers, and all who have been offended by the "ni**er pants."

Man shot in the head & ran over by a car on a rap video set

You would think in 2012, you wouldn't have to report on these kinds of stories anymore but, apparently we thought wrong. Another violent scene around a rap video set in Philadelphia. Hip Hop Wired reports:

[W]hen an "amateur rapper," as described in reports, was shooting filming a video in Philadelphia last night, bullets started flying despite over 100 people being on the scene.

"A 33-year old male was shot at least one time in the head," Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC 1o. "He collapsed on the street in the 500 block of Tabor and during all the confusion he was run over by a vehicle trying to get out of the area."

The victim was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries. The person who ran over the victim will not be charged with any crime. Police don't know what caused shots to be fired but at least two gun were used and thanks to eyewitnesses and footage from the video they they were able to arrest three individuals.

Curren$y set to sue Dame Dash for $1.5 Million

Well, uhh...not quite sure what to think about this here. Hip Hop Wired reports:

TMZ reports that Curren$y and Dame Dash's DD172 outfit are at odds over claims that Dash is continuing to release the New Orleans native's product after signing with Warner Bros. in January of last year. Spitta released two albums with Dash, both major label firsts, in 2010. Dash and DD172 released Curren$y's sixth studio album Muscle Car Chronicles this past February, which didn't sit well with the rapper or his new label.

Curren$y is asking Dash to stop releasing his product and also seeking $1.5 million in damages. Dash claims he has a right to release the product, saying he was given permission. The beleaguered producer and record executive also stated that Curren$y betrayed him by signing with Warner after pledging allegiance to DD172.

Dame Dash's post-Roc career has been marred by a series of setbacks. After splitting with former biz partners Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, Dash has been in the spotlight for a variety of legal issues including the closing of his DD172 art and performance space in Tribeca and owed back taxes in earlier times. To be fair, DD172 seems to be faring well these days despite the snafus, after Dash took his operation to Asia recently.

Magic Johnson now a part owner of LA Dodgers

NBA legend Magic Johnson made a power move earlier this week when he became part owner of the MLB LA Dodgers franchise. Hip Hop Wired reports:

NBA Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson and his entrepreneurial drive has become the stuff of legend. With his Magic Johnson Enterprises company continuing to flourish to the tune of about $700 million, the former hoops star has once again joined the ranks of sports team owners. Johnson, along with business associates Guggenheim Partners, has successfully won a bid to buy Major League Baseball team the Los Angeles Dodgers for a whopping $2 billion, shattering a sports franchise purchase record in the process.

This isn't Magic's first foray into team ownership, as Johnson was a one-time minority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers squad he once helmed as a floor general. Along with former Washington Nationals team president Stan Kasten and current Golden State Warriors co-owner Peter Guber, Johnson and his team landed the troubled Dodgers franchise with the record-breaking bid. The previous record holder for a sports franchise purchase was Steve Ross taking ownership of NFL team Miami Dolphins for $1 billion.

The team purchase bid was part of an auction led by New York investment firm Blackstone LP, this after previous owner Frank McCourt filed for bankruptcy last June amid struggles with the team and MLB commissioner Bud Selig. The new Johnson-led partnership are not officially in direct ownership of the storied franchise just yet, as McCourt still has to approve the deal by April 30. The Wall Street Journal reports that he owes his wife $131 million in a divorce settlement the next day.

Johnson issued a statement regarding the sale, promising a turnaround for the beleaguered franchise. "I am thrilled to be part of the historic Dodger franchise and intend to build on the fantastic foundation laid by Frank McCourt as we drive the Dodgers back to the front page of the sports section in our wonderful community of Los Angeles."

Michael K. Williams from the Wire set to portray Ol' Dirty Bastard

This should be a good one. From Omar to Ol' Dirty Bastard. Allhiphop reports:

Actor Michael K Williams will take the role of fallen Wu-Tang Member ODB in an upcoming bio-pic titled “Dirty White Boy.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Williams, who recently starred in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire will star in the movie as ODB, born Russell Jones.

“Dirty White Boy” will depict the last year’s of Ol’ Dirty’s life, prior to his overdose in 2004.

Ciinematographer Joaquin Baca-Asay will make his directorial debut with the film.

The movie also centers around a VH1 production employee named Jarred Weisfeld, who eventually becomes ODB’s manager, while ODB was in jail.

The story shows how Weisfeld developed a comeback for ODB, only to have him pass way from a drug overdose at the age of 35.

Fans of ODB might recall that ODB’s cousin, Raeshawn, is also piecing together a movie that is set to feature either Eddie Griffin or Tracy Morgan as ODB.

Weisfeld is cooperating with that project, along with ODB’s mother, Cherry Jones.

Nas discusses his new album with Angie Martinez

It's always good to see and legend back in the studio handling business. Nas is ready to drop his new album Allhiphop reports:

On Wednesday (March 28), Nas spoke with Angie Martinez and DJ Enuff on Hot 97′s The Angie Martinez Show about a host of issues ranging from the rap game, to his divorce, to Trayvon Martin.

Four years removed from his last solo album, Nas told Angie Martinez and DJ Enuff that he has spent time recently touring and recording with Damian Marley, traveling to Vegas and Miami, raising his kids, and recovering from what he described as a “rough divorce.”

“…I gotta admit the divorce was kind hard body.” Nas told Angie Martinez when she alluded to him being in seemingly good spirits. “So it was like I chilled out, I really stayed away, and I didn’t want to go anywhere, and at one point it just hit me like, ‘Yo, what you doing, man? Get outside, smile, enjoy life and sunshine man, you know, hit the streets hard. So I’ve been everywhere, man, Vegas, Miami and just you know, enjoying life, watching the game and watching what’s going on.”

Although Nas took a step back from the public eye for a period of time, he says he was busy at work preparing his next project, which he said will release in Summer 2012.

Earlier this month Nas debuted a new single produced by Salaam Remi, Da Internz and Heavy D entitled “The Don,” on the Funk Flex’s Hot 97 show.

Nas also explained to Martinez that he has another “Black Girl Lost” song on the new project, referring back to a theme featured on his second album, It Was Written.

“It’s not personal about anybody. My second album had “Black Girl Lost”, and I just want to do another one. It’s not personal, that’s all, I’m excited, though.”

In regards to the subject matter on the project, Nas agreed with Angie when she suggested the project would be “on politics, divorce… love.”

Agreeing that the project was personal and emotional, Nas replied, “Yea… yes, yes…I gotta get it out, I got to, I tried to avoid it, it’s in the music, I gotta talk about it, it’s life.”

Known as one of rap’s most socially conscious rappers, Nas also voiced his thoughts on the Trayvon Martin case that has gripped the nation and struck up debates across the globe. Specifically, Geraldo Rivera’s comments were examined, after he suggested that Martin’s hoodie was the culprit for the murder.

“You never want to hear that kind of news,” Nas explained to Martinez. ”When it happens, you remember how many Trayvon incidents happen everyday all over the world.. It doesn’t seem like the race problem will ever get solved. I like to be optimistic, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll ever get solved.”

Big Hump pleads guilty to cocaine distribution

The CEO and founder of Sucka Free Records plead guilty to cocaine distribution earlier this week. Allhiphop reports:

Hump, born Estell Douglas Hobbs Jr, 52, was arrested on drug charges in December of 2011, after an investigation revealed that he was part of an African-American drug network.

Federal prosecutors arrested dozens of others in the network, which sold hundreds of kilos of cocaine regularly, from 1995 until 2010.

Hobbs would receive hundreds of kilos of cocaine and store drugs for the network, which operated in Mexico, Houston, Chicago and Mississippi.

Hobbs pleaded guilty on Monday (March 26) and now faces the minimum mandatory of 10 years in prison, without the possibility of parole.

'Freeway' Ricky Ross case against Rozay dismissed

I guess after seeing the complete miscarriage of justice in the Trayvon Martin case, this one isn't all that much of a shocker. But, the Superior Court judge excuses Rozay's blatant identity theft, and dismisses Ricky Ross' case against the rapper. Allhiphop reports:

According to TMZ.com, an L.A. County Superior Court judge dismissed the lawsuit, making it the second time Freeway Rick has lost in court against the rapper.

In November 2010, a $10 million federal trademark infringement lawsuit against rapper Rick Ross was also dismissed.

The earlier ruling stated that Freeway Ricky Ross could not legally trademark his name, because he became popular due to “illegal activity,” which the judge said could not be used to establish a “secondary meaning.”

Freeway Ricky Ross re-filed the lawsuit in California Superior Court, because his attorneys California law would afford him more protection for his name.

The latest ruling marks the end of almost 5 years of bickering over the name.

Rick Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, admittedly derived his name from Freeway Ricky Ross’s exploits.
In a detailed interview with AllHipHop.com in 2008, Freeway Ricky Ross said that Rick Ross visited him in prison and asked for permission to use his name, which he refused to grant.

“I never told him it was okay to use my name,” Freeway Ricky Ross told AllHipHop.com. “I told him I wasn’t tripping, but we needed to sit down and talk. Because I would never be involved with a Milli Vanilli. I built this name to what it is today to where I can go to any prison in this country and get saluted.”

Geraldo Rivera says Trayvon being black wearing a hoodie is responsbile for him being murdered

I understand what Geraldo Rivera is trying to say, but it absolutely did not come out that way. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Today on Fox And Friends, of course, Rivera commented on the slaying of Trayvon Martin at the hands of wannabe police officer/Neighborhood Watch vigilante George Zimmerman.

“I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman,” said Geraldo. That's not a well chopped, sensational pullquote. Think Progress transcribed the entire exchange between Rivera and the show's hosts and guests:

BRIAN KILMEADE (co-host): Let's talk about the Trayvon Martin case and what's going on in Florida right now.

GERALDO RIVERA: I believe that George Zimmerman, the overzealous neighborhood watch captain should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law and if he is criminally liable, he should be prosecuted. But I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was.

JULIET HUDDY (guest-host): What do you mean?

RIVERA: When you, when you see a kid walking — Juliet — when you see a kid walking down the street, particularly a dark skinned kid like my son Cruz, who I constantly yelled at when he was going out wearing a damn hoodie or those pants around his ankles. Take that hood off, people look at you and they — what do they think? What's the instant identification, what's the instant association?

STEVE DOOCY (co-host): Uh-oh.

RIVERA: It's those crime scene surveillance tapes. Every time you see someone sticking up a 7-11, the kid is wearing a hoodie. [...] When you see a black or Latino youngster, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street. You try to avoid that confrontation.

Whitney Houston cause of death has been released

Whitney Houston's cause of death has been determined today. LA Times reports:

Singer Whitney Houston appears to have suffered a heart episode before accidentally drowning in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel suite, according to coroner's officials who listed cocaine use as a contributing factor.

The autopsy results were released Thursday after weeks of intense speculation over how the 48-year-old pop star died.

The report goes on to say:

Houston had battled drug addiction for years, and the coroner's office found traces of several drugs — including marijuana, the anti-anxiety medication Xanax, the muscle relaxant Flexeril as well as Benadryl — in her system. But the coroner's office concluded that those drugs did not contribute to her death.

Cocaine did play a role, though officials would not say how much of the drug was in her system. Craig Harvey, the coroner's operations chief, said the toxicology findings "suggested chronic usage."

"She could have had a heart attack," rendering her unconscious, and then become submerged in the filled tub, said Ed Winter, the coroner's deputy chief for operations.

A law enforcement source said that no cocaine was found in Houston's room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel but that bottles of various medications were recovered. The autopsy found that the singer suffered from a pre-existing condition known as atherosclerotic heart disease.

David Campbell, a retired captain for the coroner's office, said the disease is often linked to blockages of blood flow to the heart.

Toure poor taste twitter joke lands him in hot water

Toure has always been an outspoken individual and it has gotten him in trouble on more than one occasion. Things were no different earlier this week. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Touré learned this lesson earlier today when he posted an insensitive joke on his Twitter feed. "New slang! You're Zimmering me = You're killing me," he wrote regarding the senseless shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The Florida teen was shot dead by 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who allegedly mistook him for a trespassing criminal despite the fact that he was unarmed and visiting family in a gated community.

Touré, who is no stranger to pulling and then trading in his race card, so long as it fits his agenda, felt the immediate error of his ways. He became a trending topic—which is exactly what he wanted seeing as how he seems to make ridiculous ignorant comments just to get a rise out of people—and posted a half-hearted apology, but not before complaining. "You know the Trayvon twitter convo is wildly out of control when a self-defined progressive white person calls me rabidly racist. O.k," he wrote.

Finally coming to his senses (or maybe just feeling the heat from the Twitterverse) he wrote, "Fine. It was a bad "joke." Obviously not meant to be heartless. Days & days of intellectual discourse re Trayvon went over some heads I see. My position on Trayvon has been clear for days. I shouldn't have attacked his murderer with a facetious attempt at dark humor."

President Obama scheduled to appear in the new Entourage movie

President Barack Obama seems to be set to make an appearance in the film adaption of Entourage. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Although the series did come to an end this past summer, it looks like the leader of the free world will be making a cameo when the series hits the big screen in the future. "I promised to make the Entourage movie if he would do a cameo. He agreed. Seriously.," Adrian Grenier said in a Facebook message which accompanied a photo of the President.

Back in an interview in 2008, President Obama revealed that his favorite shows were The Wire and Entourage. "I never try to analyze these things too much, but I think Obama is someone who believes in family and loyalty," Entourage creator and executive producer Doug Ellin told the New York Daily News at the time. "And I think at its core, that's what Entourage is about."

Million Hoodie March in honor of Trayvon Martin

Yesterday in NYC, protesters organized a Million Hoodie March in honor of the teen murdered in Florida, Trayvon Martin. Hip Hop Wired reports:

In conjunction with the United Nation's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a group of revelers will gather in New York City (March 21) to march in solidarity in support of growing public outcry regarding the tragic shooting of 17-year old Trayvon Martin in Florida.

The loosely organized “Million Hoodie March” will be took place at Union Square between 6pm to 9pm EST. Attendees were encouraged to wear their favorite hoodie, the same article of clothing Travyon Martin was wearing when George Zimmerman shot and killed him in a suburb just outside of Orlando during NBA All-Star Weekend.

The event exploded onto social media platforms Facebook and Twitter, with the latter network's hashtag system displaying several variations on tonight's theme. The tags “#millionhoodies” and “#wyhwtm” have made their rounds on many timelines on Twitter, with some members of the site taking photos and videos adorned in their hoodies.

Activists such as outspoken west coast media personality Davey D has shown support of the Hoodie March and a quick click of the hashtags showing that others are joining the effort as well.

Details on the case continue to emerge:

As the media attention regarding the murder of 17-year old Trayvon Martin at the hands of armed Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman in Florida last month swells exponentially, new details have emerged at a rapid rate. Earlier this morning, it was announced by Florida's state attorney that the matter will be heard by a grand jury as part of an investigation focused on the sketchy details that led to the teen losing his life.

The announcement of the grand jury investigation came on the heels of an exclusive ABC News report where a female friend shared details with the Martin family's attorney of a phone call she had with Trayvon just five minutes before he was shot. ABC obtained exclusive copies of the 16-year old girl's phone records, and she told attorney Benjamin Crump of the conversation she had with Trayvon while he was returning to his father's fiancé's home in Sanford.

"He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man," Martin's friend said to Crump. "I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run but he said he was not going to run."

According to the friend, Martin did take off but was apparently cornered by Zimmerman, who initially made a call to dispatchers to report the boy for suspicious activity within the gated townhome community. After telling dispatchers he was tailing the teenager, he was instructed to cease his search but disobeyed and confronted the boy. The female friend said she heard a conversation between Zimmerman and Trayvon and then a scuffle before the line went dead.

The Martin family has been unified in their fight to see criminal charges levied upon George Zimmerman. They maintain that the watch captain acted out of line and unjustly murdered Trayvon. For Zimmerman, the odds are continuing to stack negatively against him.

Recently released 911 call recordings helped to reveal chilling audio surrounding the fateful night. Screams, shouting persons and two loud bangs that the Martin family has categorized as gunshots are all audibly present on the tapes. Trayvon's parents have also confirmed that one of the screams heard before the gunfire bang was that of her son.

Rev. Al Sharpton plans to visit Sanford this coming Thursday to stage a rally along with his activist arm National Action Network. Dr. Jamal Bryant of the Empowerment Temple also intends to stage a rally this month in the small town just 20 miles north of Orlando. Also joining the cry for justice is the New Black Liberation Militia, who voiced their intentions of making a citizen's arrest of George Zimmerman.

Young Vito charged with the murder of Slim Dunkin

It seems as if there are some new developments in the case of the murdered Slim Dunkin. Hip Hop Wired reports:

The man who allegedly shot and killed Atlanta rapper Slim Dunkin in an East Atlanta recording studio last December has been indicted and charged with the Brick Squad Monopoly rapper's murder, along with other charges. According to the Washington Post, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office issued a statement on Tuesday (March 20) stating that Vinson “Young Vito” Hardimon was officially charged by a Georgia grand jury with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Hardimon was implicated in killing Dunkin, born Mario Hamilton, on December 16, 2011 following an altercation during a recording session. According to witnesses, Vito entered a booth occupied by Dunkin and the men began to tussle. The scrap ended with Vito shooting Dunkin in the chest. Dunkin was then transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where efforts to save his life failed.

Police immediately named Hardimon as a suspect. He turned himself into authorities 10 days after the killing. Initial reports said that the upstart Waka Flocka protégé was ultimately killed in an argument over a single piece of candy. Before his senseless killing the MC was just beginning to make his mark as a soloist, releasing the 20-track mixtape, Menace II Society two months prior to his death. No trial date has been set in the case.

Jay Electronica's album shelved due to the lack of singles

According to The Roots drummer, Questlove, Jay-Z has shelved Jay Electronica's album because there are no singles on it. Allhiphop reports:

Last week, Jay Electronica tweeted that his album was completely done and had already been handed in to his label, Roc Nation. Well, according to Questlove of the Roots, Roc Nation boss Jay-Z doesn’t feel the album is complete because it “has no singles on it.”

“Jay, Shawn Carter, has the record and listens to it constantly and says it’s his favorite record of 2012. It has no singles on it though, but it’s his favorite record,” Quest explains.

Questlove also revealed that he’s been in rehearsals with Jay-Z and witnessed him having to go over his lyrics over and over again.

“Oh yeah, he needs his lyrics printed out…Well, cause Tariq told me that an MC can only really truly hold like maybe 30 songs in his head,” said Questlove.

Sean Kingston allegedly attacked a woman

It's always unfortunate when you hear anything about a woman being attacked. But, it's just as unfortunate when you hear about a woman lying about being attacked. That seems to be what Sean Kingston is up against now. Allhiphop reports:

The “Beautiful Girls” singer, was recently served with a civil summons and complaint from a woman who says he attacked her.

The woman says that Kingston and his posse “gang attacked” her after a concert in 2010 and has now filed a lawsuit seeking damages from the alleged incident.

All the details are not in on this story yet, so we'll see how this one turns out.

Tyga's tour bus shot up

This story isn't funny, but where this story took place that cracks me up. Tyga's tour bus was shot up earlier this week. Allhiphop reports:

Police in Omaha, Nebraska are seeking suspects who shot and injured two people after a dispute with Young Money rapper Tyga.

Tyga was in town performing at the Sokol Auditorium, when his entourage became involved in an altercation with audience members.

After garbage was thrown on the stage, a fight broke out between members of Tyga’s group and several people in the crowd.

According to police, the group’s bus was fired upon, as they were boarding.

As the bus pulled out of the venue’s parking lot, the suspects followed and fired more shots at the bus.

Police said two people were injured, one being rapper Honey Cocaine, who confirmed her injuries via her Twitter page.

Tyga also released a statement about the shooting via his Twitter page.

“Let’s be clear them was haters not fans. My fans love me I love them. S**t happens and as a Man I deal with those decisions I make,” Tyga tweeted.

Police have not made any arrests.

Young Buck's girlfriend grazed by a bullet in Nashville Shooting

Young Buck and his girlfriend were involved in an altercation and subsequent shooting in his native Tennessee. Allhiphop reports:

Security intervened in the matter and Young Buck and his girlfriend Kenyetta Rainey left the club, along with the party they originally argued with.

Moments later, a white Chevy Tahoe pulled up alongside Young Buck’s Cadillac Escalade and fired upon the vehicle.

The Cadillac Escalade was struck 11 times, and Young Buck’s girlfriend was grazed in the shoulder.

Rainey was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and released.

Police are still seeking suspects in the shooting, which occurred hours after Young Buck hosted a video shoot and cookout.

LeBron James mother is back in the public eye

LeBron James's mother is almost in the news just as often as her NBA-star son. Hip Hop Wired reports:

According to TMZ, momma James struck a plea deal with prosecutors where she will avoid lock up. As a part of the agreement, James must complete 20 hours of community service and donate $1,000 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. She must also have no contact with Sorel, who is of Haitian decent and agreed to the stipulations of the deal.

As previously reported, Ms. James was caught on security camera video last April, berating and putting grown woman hands on Sorel over a parking situation outside of the popular Fontainebleau Hotel. She also took a swing at the valet with her purse before falling to the ground. She was later arrested for battery and public intoxication.

Nipsey Hussle discusses the shooting in Arizona

Nipsey Hussle name has been in the news as of late after a shooting at one of his shows in Arizona. Hip Hop Wired reports:

The West Coast MC, is outraged that his appearance at an Tempe, Arizona nightclub was riddled with violence, forcing him to cancel the gig. "My deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the victims and their families who were affected by the tragic event that took place last night in Arizona," Nipsey wrote via his Tumblr page over the weekend. "I pray for the speedy recovery for anyone involved."

Despite being affiliated with the Rollin 60s Crips gang, the rhymer—born Ermias Asghedom—has denounced violence. "I grew up on the streets of south central Los Angeles and have witnessed many tragedies in my lifetime," he added. "I never glorify any situation like this and think it is disgusting. Any fan of my music knows that I strongly oppose gun violence, and that I represent nothing but peace and progress through hard work."

Thirteen victims were reportedly shot and wounded during the mele outside The Clubhouse Music Venue, which left two people in critical condition. While only one of the three suspects have been apprehended for the shooting, authorities have done a lackluster job of pinpointed the remaining criminals, identifying them as "two Black men in dark clothing."

Leader of Anonymous allegedly an FBI informant

This one is story is kind of interesting. It almost cancels out everything we've seen from the group Anonymous. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Hector Xavier Monsegur, 28, is better known as Sabu, the most prominent member of Anonymous and leader of the now defunct hacker group LulzSec.

It has been revealed that Sabu was an FBI informant for the past few months and assisted authorities in snagging members of both Anonymous and the remaining members of LulzSec on two different continents.

Reports by FOX News state that Sabu was arrested last summer at his housing complex in New York's Lower East Side when his IP was tracked by feds and they allowed the evidence to mount before apprehending him. He pled guilty to 12 charges in August but didn't enjoy the idea of being incarcerated in real life and fell victim to the good cop/bad cop song and dance that authorities use to get someone on their side. Sabu sang, and sang and sang to avoid being a caged bird. Meanwhile, he continued being the most vocal of the Anonymous crew and publicly cheered his comrades for new hacks and dished out slander to the U.S. Government. Before the Anon crew knew what hit them, they were swept up in multiple raids thanks to the information that Sabu provided

Black students more likely to be suspended

I tend to take pride in the fact I don't prove many of the statistics about black males. But, sadly, this is one I do fit. Hip Hop Wired reports:

New data from the Department Of Education reveals that one out of five Black male students and just over one in 10 black female students face more suspensions and expulsions in public schools than their white counterparts, reports the New York Times. In a review of the numbers received from the Civil Rights Data Collection study, 72,000 schools over 7,000 districts were tallied.

Of the schools that were sampled, Black students only made up 18 percent of those enrolled. The ranges of grades recorded were kindergarten through high school, accounting for 85 percent of the nation's public school student body. However, Black students who were suspended once rang in at 35 percent. Repeat offenders were measured at a mark of 45 percent. At the core of the collected data is the Department of Education's desire to see the intersection between civil rights and education.

“Education is the civil rights of our generation,” said Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a telephone briefing on the report. “The undeniable truth is that the everyday education experience for too many students of color violates the principle of equity at the heart of the American promise.”

The Department began its study back in 1968; however, it was halted in 2006 by then-president George W. Bush. After being revamped and revived, the study showed that a whopping 70 percent of Hispanic and Black students made up for school arrests that involved law enforcement officials, which was a newly researched part of the data.

Not surprisingly, schools with a high number of incidents with Hispanic and Black children also employed the lowest paid and less skilled teachers, with gaps ranging into the higher thousands for some.

The data has not been fully released for the public although Secretary Duncan will be presenting his findings today at Howard University.

Nas setting up his last Def Jam release

Despite all of the issues he's facing in his personal life, Nas has been putting in work in the studio as of late. Hip Hop Wired reports:

According to Grammy nominated production duo Da Internz—Marcos “Kosine On Da Beat” Palacios and Ernest “Tuo” Clark—who have been entrenched in the studio with the “Nasty” rapper, it is a sight to see. The beat making team, who has crafted hits for Rihanna (“Birthday Cake Remix”) and Big Sean (“Dance (A$$)”), recently sat down with RapUpTV and talked about working with the Queensbridge rap legend on what will be is final album on Def Jam Records.

Despite being a legend in the game, the production duo says the Illmatic one is as humble as a new jack in the studio. “Nas is so cool, he's so down-to-earth, and he's so about allowing us to do our job as producers and let us put our vision on it,” said Kosine. “It's been a dream come true.”

When it comes to material, the track makers believe Mr. Jones is as hungry as ever, and said his bars are reminiscent of his early works. “This Nas album is not the Nas that is like, this is cool, this is cute,” added Tuo. “This is the Nas like really, ‘I'm trying to tear the skin off your face.' He's not playing around. Nas is taking you back to the lyrics and concepts like, It Was Written.”

African Americans account for 40% of new AIDS/HIV in Dallas County

A new reports says that Dallas County has the highest rates of new AIDS/HIV cases. WFAA.com reports:

"The new numbers we're seeing in the 13-to-18 age group, that number is staggering," said Dallas County Health Department Director Zach Thompson.

Thompson said Dallas County leads the state in the number of new HIV infections.

Twenty-five percent of new HIV cases in the county are in the 13-to-24 age group. About 40 percent of all new cases are African American and female.

"We were just as alarmed in the 80's when we saw the infection rate among white gay males," Thompson said. "We should have the same intensity now as it relates to African American females. And I don't see that intensity."
