Max B's conviction upheld in court

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Max B will be coming home anytime soon...apparently not until 2042. Hip Hop Wired reports:

An appeals court has upheld the murder conviction and 75-year sentence given to Max B for his role in a 2006 robbery at a Fort Lee hotel which turned deadly. Max B, real name Charly Wingate, had argued that the Bergen County Superior Court judge who tried his case had erred by not granting a request to separate it from that of his accomplice, Kelvin Leerdam.

The 34-year-old rapper was convicted in 2009 after a jury found that he had sent Leerdam, his stepbrother, and his girlfriend Gina Conway to a Holiday Inn on Route 4 to rob two men, Allan Plowden and David Taylor. The robbery was botched and Leerdam ended up murdering Taylor. Max B's sing/rap style is said to have inspired artists like French Montana, Jim Jones and Wiz Khalifa. Support for the release of Max has been strong within the Hip-Hop community, going as far as being name dropped by Jay-Z in the song "3 Kings."

Max B will not be eligible for parole from Trenton State Prison, where he will be jailed until November 9, 2042.

Bun B Day in Houston

Shout out to the Trill O.G. Bun B for holding things down in the community. He recently hosted his annual food drive in Houston today . Hip Hop Wired reports:

Bernard "Bun B" Freeman has always been a man of the people. The Underground King was honored with his very own "Bun B Day" one year ago in Houston, TX by Mayor Annise Parker for recognition to his commitment for community service. This year, Bun is continuing in the at tradition by giving back to the people by hosting a food drive.

"To be honored with my own day by Mayor Parker and the Council is something I don't take lightly," Bun B said in a statement.  "It is my hope that the day becomes synonymous with honor, good will, and helping one's fellow man. Partnering with the Houston Food Bank is the first step. Join us in our effort to begin a new tradition of unity in the human community on August 30!"

Beanie Sigel arrested with guns and drugs

Beanie Sigel is apparently a target for the police. I think he gets pulled over and arrested more than T.I. Hip Hop Wired has the latest:

Beanie Sigel can't seem to keep himself out of trouble. Only days before he was ready to turn himself into authorities for tax evasion, Beans was arrested again during a traffic stop after finding an amount of drugs and a firearm in his vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle, Gerald Andrews, was ordered out of the vehicle after swerving on the I-95.

The cars passenger, Sigel, was then searched and police found approximately $4,650 cash, a bottle of codeine syrup with a scratched off label, and several prescription pills wrapped in plastic bags located in a cigarette pack. Both men were detained by officers, and during a search of the vehicle Troopers found a firearm located in the center console. Andrews and Grant are both convicted felons and not allowed to possess a firearm.

Sigel, who just released his latest album This Time this past Tuesday, was to turn himself into authorities after pleading guilty for tax evasion. It looks like he might be there for quite a while longer. State Property, for real.

Atlanta pastor accused of spreading HIV in congregation

I don't know what's going on in the churches in Atlanta, but it's sad this is kind of a black eye on the faith. A preacher in Atlanta apparently has been spreading HIV to his congregation. Hip Hop Wired reports:

A married Atlanta pastor has been accused of infecting several women belonging to his church with HIV. Pastor Craig Lamar Davis formerly of the Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta is HIV positive but he didn't let that hold up his intimate conquests.

Two women have pressed charges against Davis, and one has just recently come forward with her story.
Ronita McAfee, one of the women who slept with Davis, met him on Facebook, and was alerted of his health status when one of his ex-girlfriends called and told her she had HIV. Based on his actions, McAfee determined that Davis had no intentions of slowing down his appetite for women, prompting her to press charges against him.

McAfee also posted on warning about Davis on the church's website.

After the investigation began, another female member of the church came forward to admit that she too had a physical relationship with Davis. The woman confided in church bishop, Steven Hall,  and claimed to have been celibate for 15-year-old before meeting Davis. She is now HIV positive.

Davis was arrested at a local Wendy's for reckless conduct, and was denied then granted bail, which was posted by his wife.

Authorities suspect that there are other women who have been infected by Davis but have yet to come forward.

Dr. Dre made major moves in 2012

We're always saluting anyone we support getting to the money! Dr. Dre may not be releasing Detox anytime soon, but he's definitely making moves behind the scenes. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Forbes just released their annual list of the highest paid celebrities. Topping the list are the usual suspects of Oprah Winfrey ($165 Mililon), Michael Bay ($160 Million), and Steven Spielberg ($130 Million).

Surprising to some, Dr. Dre placed 5th on the list by pulling in a whopping $110 million dollars between May 2011 and May 2012. No other Hip-Hop mogul came close. Not Jay-Z, Beyonce, or Diddy. Dr. Dre cashed out heavily last year when his Beats By Dre headphones company was bought out by HTC for over $300 Million. As Forbes' Dorothy Pomerantz notes, he did make a good amount of money off of music but it "pales in comparison" to what he made off of his designer headsets.

Beats Electronics, the audio products company founded by Hip-Hop producer Dr. Dre and Interscope-Geffen-A&M boss Jimmy Iovine, has cornered the market with their high-end Beats By Dre headphones and other audio equipment. According to a report from tech site  Boy Genius Report (BGR), it appears that the company is looking to make a splash in the increasingly crowded smartphone and television markets in what is billed as an effort to take on technology giant Apple.

Electronics manufacturer HTC made an initial investment into the Beats line, hoping to tap into the company's popularity and offer other collaborative products. Although HTC has already sold back half its ownership stake to Dre, Iovine and the Universal Music Group, they are part of a creative team that will develop a smartphone for the brand. While there is no name yet for the device or specs, Beats intends to introduce a service similar to iTunes nicknamed “Daisy” and plans to roll out a subscription-based music streaming service in the same vein as Spotify and other such apps.

Choosing not to rest on its laurels, the Beats team is also unveiling a “TV With Beats” via a partnership with manufacturer Samsung. BGR reports that the Beats TV will perform much like Apple TV and hopes that the new smartphone device will integrate seamlessly with the new television sets. This set up nearly mirrors Apple's set up with its iPhone and how it plays well with other products the company produces.

As of now, there is no timeline for the release of the Beats phone.

Porn Star Mr. Marcus allegedly the cause of syphillis spread in adult industry

Ummm...okay. In "Why am I posting this, because I don't care" news, a porn star, Mr. Markus has apparently had one too many sex partners and got a staff infection. Ooooops! Therundown.tv reports:

The porn actor, who uses the name Mr. Marcus, told trade journal Adult Video News (AVN) he went to his personal doctor when he felt sick on July 11. The doctor ran tests, and the next day learned Mr. Marcus tested positive for syphilis. The following day, he was given a penicillin shot and told to abstain from sex.

“My personal doctor doesn’t know what I do for a living,” Mr. Marcus told the website. “So his thing was just don’t have any sex for 7-10 days. Once I did that shot I felt pretty confident. Every doctor I talked to up to that point said, ‘You get the shot. That’s it.’”

Although subsequent testing showed syphilis was still in his system, 11 days after he received treatment, on July 24, Mr. Marcus shot a sex scene. He says the producer didn’t check his name in the Talent Testing Service (TTS) database, only asked to see a physical proof of his test results.

Mr. Marcus showed the producer a copy on his cell phone, but admits he hid the part that showed he had tested positive for syphilis.

“I showed that my HIV was clear, my gonorrhea and chlamydia were fine,” he told AVN. “You didn’t see the syphilis part of the test because of the way I showed it.”

Mr. Marcus says he doesn’t think he did anything wrong — even though he had a sexually transmitted disease when he had sex with other performers.

“I don’t feel that was a mistake,” he said. “I was treated. I allowed the medicine to take effect, and I wanted to proceed as normal. I wanted to go back to work as usual.”

Mr. Marcus also admits he doctored test results he received from TTS to give to his “Blazing Bucks” director. The director thought the test looked suspicious, prompting an investigation into Mr. Marcus’ health.

“I tried to cover it up,” he told AVN. “I didn’t want to have to share that part because it was like the Scarlet Letter. Because then it’s like Mr. Marcus, syphilis?”

He says he came clean after reports surfaced this week of a syphilis outbreak among porn performers, prompting a 10-day halt in filming so more than 1,000 actors could get tested.

All of Mr. Marcus partners have tested negative for syphilis, but the AP reports there are at least nine other cases of syphilis.

Juvenile arrested in Miami

Rapper Juvenile was arrested in Miami this morning. Allhiphop reports:

According to reports, Juvenile’s behavior at the hotel resulted in the arrest.

Additionally, he was kicked out of an area club for disorderly conduct, TMZ reports.

The rapper was in town and reunited briefly with Lil Wayne at LV nightclub. He was arrested and booked at about 7am this morning. Details have been scant.

Juvenile, real name is Terius Gray, has been arrested for a number of reasons throughout the year. He was arrested for child support issues, possession of marijuana and was accused of driving with a suspended license.

Hip Wired apparently have some new information on the incident in question:

But around 7AM, cops say Juvenile -- who's listed at 5'11, 150 lbs -- was involved in a fight that began inside the nightclub and spilled outside to the front of the hotel.

Security told police the people involved in the fight were "creating a threat to life and property as well as the overall safety of the patrons inside."

Miami Beach PD responded to the scene and arrested Juve -- he was hauled to a nearby station where he was booked. He is still in custody.

Mike Tyson gives 50 Cent some advice on the world of boxing

For those of you who haven't heard, 50 Cent has been toying with the idea of getting into the boxing world as a promoter. Well, Mike Tyson heard and wanted to offer the mogul a little bit of advice. Allhiphop reports:

Boxing legend Mike Tyson recently born rapper 50 Cent about the pitfalls of the boxing industry, in an interview with Entertainment Sports Radio.

BoxingScene.com reports that Mike Tyson discussed his views on 50′s new venture with Floyd Mayweather Jr., The Money Team Promotions aka TMT Promotions.

50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather have already signed several high-profile boxers to TMT Promotions, including Yuriorkis Gamboa, Andre Berto, Billy Dib and Celestino Caballero.

“I wish 50 Cent the best of luck in the world with the endeavor that he’s doing, but this is something that 50 Cent has to know when you’re dealing with something like boxing and you’re dealing with human beings,” Mike Tyson said. “We calling it peddling the flesh. Even though you’re paying them, you’re still dealing and flesh.”

According to Mike Tyson, the sport of gambling is so corrupt, that he believes it should be taken over by the government.

Mike Tyson warned 50 Cent that his new company with Floyd Mayweather could also cost him his career as an entertainer.

“50 is a rap star, 50 is an entertainer, 50 is an entrepreneur,” Mike Tyson said. “He doesn’t really know the ins and outs of boxing. He probably knows what Floyd tells him, but once he gets in this arena, everyone that was ever his friend on the other side is [now] his enemy.”

Jay Electronica and stic.man from Dead Prez allegdelly were ghostwriters for Nas

I must admit, when I first heard this story, I brushed it off. But after seeing the interview with Big Boi, I'm a little disappointed. Globalgrind.com reports:

Hip-hop fans never dreamed there'd come a day that Nas and ghostwriters would be in the same sentence, but today, they are.

Rappers I Know released a bomb-dropping blog, detailing a phone call they had with Roc Nation rapper Jay Electronica in 2007, who revealed that he was ghostwriting on Nas' controversial Untitled album, also known as the Nigger album.

Many hip-hop fans thought it was complete B.S., until journalist and hip-hop fanatic Dream Hampton confirmed on her Twitter that Jay Electronica and stic.man of dead prez were both ghostwriters on Nas' Untitled.

As of last night, neither Nas nor Jay Electronica have acknowledged the ghostwriting allegations, but GlobalGrind knows one thing, Nas having a ghostwriter on Untitled is like finding out you were adopted and your whole life's been a lie.

Read the whole account of Rappers I Know's discovery that Jay Electronica was ghostwriting on Untitled, here.

Check out the interview below to find out what Nas said when asked if he ever had ghostwriters:

Chad Ochocinco had a long weekend after allegedly head-butting wife

Chad Ochocinco had a long weekend beginning with being arrested over an alleged domestic violence dispute. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Ochocinco was booked into Florida's Broward County Jail, and faced a judge early Sunday (Aug. 12). The 34-year-old is not allowed to have contact with his wife, whom he is said to have attacked following a verbal altercation. According to his lawyer, Adam Swickle, the no contact order is common practice in domestic violence cases.

The couple tied the knot last month, but ran into trouble when Lozada found a receipt for condoms, and confronted him about it Saturday (Aug. 11). She reportedly ran to a neighbor's house and called police, when the incident turned physical.

While neither party has spoken out about the situation, Ochocinco's team, the Miami Dolphins, released a statement on his arrest. "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the relevant information," said the statement.

The Dolphins have practice this afternoon, but Ochocinco is not expected to be out of jail in time.

Lozada and Ochocinco met on Twitter, and landed their own VH1 reality show chronicling their relationship and wedding, which is expected to premiere in a few weeks.

Ochocinco claims that he head-butted Lozada by accident.

According to a source the receiver has been let go from the Miami Dolphins,  one day after he was arrested for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada.

Ochocinco was released from custody Sunday (Aug. 12), and missed practice with the Dolphins.

Following the altercation, the team released a statement that they were "aware" of the incident but "in the process of gathering all the relevant information." A piece of that "information" may have been a report that the 34-year-old said he didn't "give a f-ck" about his career during the argument with Lozada, which occurred after she found a receipt for condoms, possibly belonging to her husband of a month.

***UPDATE***

Add another item to the list of things contributing to the downward spiral of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson's life—and career. VH1 has announced that its cancelling the reality show Ev & Ocho,  after he was arrested for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada, over the weekend.

While the world thought that the awkward struggle of the 34-year-old  hit its peak when he was dropped from the Miami Dolphins,  the very same day that he was released from jail, VH1 proved that when it rains, it pours.“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev & Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” the network said in a statement.

Johnson and his wife tied the knot just last month, in an elaborate island ceremony. They reportedly got into an argument over a condom receipt belonging to the wide receiver. Lozada confronted him, an argument ensued, and rather than walking away, he used his head as a weapon.

Lozada, who shot to fame thanks to her many confrontations on the show Basketball Wives, went to the hospital with lacerations on her head.

Both she and her husband are not allowed to have contact with one another, which is customary practice in domestic violence situations.

50 Cent says he disabled Yayo and Banks; Yayo's response

Well, there may be a little dissension in the G-Unit camp after all. A couple of months ago the general came out and said he hasn't spoke to Banks in a while, and now he has echoed a little disappointment with Yayo as well. Allhiphop reports:

Back in May, G-Unit founder 50 Cent publicly stated that both Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo “need to get themselves together,” now in a recent interview with XXL, the mogul, rapper, and actor is still not satisfied with their work ethic.

“They just sit there and wait,” he told XXL. “When someone works for you, you have the habit of dealing with things by not dealing with them. You may get in the regimen of coming over and doing it for them.
“I actually haven’t spoke to ‘em very much,” he continued. “I’m to fault for that, though. I think I disabled them.”

When asked to explain his “disabling” comment, 50 Cent said, “I did so much for them that they don’t have a continuous work ethic. They got both of those tapes out there, but did you see any visuals? Anything? There’s certain things that the new guy is doing to create momentum or energy.”
In the two months since 50 Cent’s original comments, both Banks and Yayo have released mixtapes in the form of V6: The Gift and Sex, Drugs and Hip-Hop.

Pressed for further explanation of their respective mixtapes, 50 Cent said, “Dropping mixtapes…that was my ’02 strategy. That’s 2002 marketing. That’s old. You did nothing if you did that. Look what I’ve done with The Lost Tape or The Big 10. There’s videos for everything that was on the tapes. If you’re going to just wing it and drop a mixtape…pick the highlights that people like most and shoot ‘em.”

50 Cent recently released “New Day” featuring Dr. Dre and Alicia Keys as the first single from his upcoming fifth studio album, StreetKing Immortal, scheduled to drop on November 13.

”People have habits they refuse to change…I’ve enabled them to a point that they don’t feel like they have to do anything. [I] end up doing their job too…they don’t have managers”.

“Yayo had to do a lot more…he just doesn’t do what he’s supposed to do. I don’t think [G-Unit] actually over, they just need to get themselves together”.

“Ya’ came back from jail, he was different…his energy was different.”

And Tony Yayo just posted the following.

9 year old's lemonade stand raises $3,000 for the city of Detroit

You know, it's sad that this 9-year old boy has more initiative than people 3 times his age. But, this is a great look for young Joshua Smith and his parents. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Joshua Smith had a one goal: to raise money to help the city of Detroit. In less than a week of selling lemonade, other beverages, and popcorn, the youngster raised a respectable $3,000. Given the fact that his most expensive product was only $2, Smith did a pretty good job.

The 9-year-old told his family that he wanted to do his part to aid the city, so they put up $100 to buy the items which he sold in front of his family home. Once he garnered national attention, Smith received donations from as far as South Africa. “I heard the city was in crisis because the city is broke and I was really upset,” he said.

In honor of his achievement, the city council rewarded smith with an award for outstanding achievement. He also received a $2,000 college scholarship from the Rosa L. Parks Scholarship Foundation.

Even with what he earned, Smith has hardly put a dent in Detroit's $100 million deficit, but the fact that he chose to take a stand and actually followed through is what makes his story so admirable.

Timbaland may have a hand in Aaliyah's album, though the family hasn't signed off

Well, there's a lot of talk surrounding a new Aaliyah album. Who's going to be involved, who's producing it...well it looks like the Haughton family may not be approving any album or movies involving the deceased singer. Allhiphop reports:

It looks like Timbaland may have a hand in the Drake and 40 produced Aaliyah project after all. Aaliyah fans were in an uproar on twitter bashing Drake for his exclusion of Timbo on the album, and it looks like Drake may have adhered to the public outcry. According to Miss Info, “Enough Said” was released by Aaliyah’s own label, Blackground Records, which is run by her uncle, Barry Hankerson. The song wasn’t leaked by Drake or 40 as previously reported.

The source says that Timbo has already produced two tracks on the upcoming album, and that 40 will be producing the majority of the album. We hear that Drake is only on one song at the moment, the recently released “Enough Said”.

There is one issue here – Aaliyah’s brother Rashad hopped on his Facebook page yesterday to shoot down any rumors that the family was in support of the new album as previously supported:
“there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.” -Rashad Haughton (regarding upcoming album release rumors)

Rashad also shot down rumors of an Aaliyah biopic in the works, posting the following message on Facebook, “No female I’ve seen can play my sister.” -Rashad

Dr. Dre signs a development deal with FX

As if Dr. Dre needed another excuse for us not getting Detox any time soon, he has just taken on another project. This time is in the television arena. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Dr. Dre sells a gang of headphones and occasionally produces music (he's on the cover of the latest XXL), too. So the next logical progression in his stories career is...cable television. The world renowned producer has inked a deal with FX to develop a crime drama, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The cable channel has commissioned the "Deep Cover" rapper/producer (who serve as an executive producer) and writer Sidney Quashi to write the script for a one-hour drama pilot that mingles the crime business and music business.

Dre's label, Aftermath Entertainment, launched 11 years earlier and has showcased such talent as Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game and his newest discovery Kendrick Lamar. He began his career as a member of seminal gangsta rap group N.W.A and continued as a producer and solo artist. In 2008, Dre moved into the tech sector with the launch of popular headphones line Beats by Dr. Dre.

Ice Cube's album is on the way and 'Last Friday' is almost finished

Legendary West Coast rapper Ice Cube is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Fresh off the heels of 21 Jumpstreet, he's working on a new album, the NWA biopic and Last Friday. Allhiphop reports:

West Coast legend Ice Cube is hard at work on his upcoming album Everything’s Corrupt, which the rapper/director said was “65 percent” finished.

The rap star hit the stage at Irving Plaza in New York and after the show, Ice Cube conducted an interview with Duck Down Visuals for Red Bull U.S.A.

During the interview, Ice Cube divulged some information regarding Everything’s Corrupt.

“It’ll be out next year, you know, its hardcore Hip-Hop. It’s street knowledge, it’s talking about what’s going on in the hood, but it’s talking about what’s going on in the political arena,” Ice Cube revealed. “It’s what I always try to give. Much more than just rhyming.”

In related news, Ice Cube discussed the progress of “Last Friday,” which is in pre-production. Although Ice Cube didn’t discuss Chris Tucker’s possible involvement, he confirmed that the movie is in the works.

Ice Cube is meeting with New Line Cinema, the company that bankrolled the original “Friday” franchise of movies that have grossed over $150 million dollars since their theatrical releases.

“The script is almost finished, I got a meeting with New Line on Monday or Tuesday, to talk about the next steps,” Ice Cube said. “You gotta get that script tight before you can take the next step.”

Florida nurse uses dead patient's credit card info

This is just a testament of how no one's personal information is safe...even after you've passed away. Hip Hop Wired reports:

A Sarasota nurse is accused of stealing the credit cards of a patient who died at the hospital where she worked. She was arrested for the crime last week.

Margaret M. Nunn—who likely had bad credit, or was very pressed for cash—is alleged to have used three credit cards of a 63-year-old man who died in the emergency room at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital on June 10. Of course when you're a heartless criminal, you can waste no time breaking the law, which is why Nunn immediately started using the cards, within hours of the patient's demise.

Nunn jacked the plastic to pay phone bills, buy bridal shoes, airline tickets, and a bunch of other items. In total, the 53-year-old racked up $1,186.00 in charges.

Authorities were able to identify Nunn with help from the hospital's Public Safety Office. She is said to have admitted to wrong doing once questioned while in jail. According to her statement, Nunn copied the patient's driver license information and his credit card numbers before running off and spending his money.

It took more than a month, but as of July 25, Nunn was arrested on seven counts of credit card fraud, and ID theft.

Flesh-N-Bone's teenage daughter missing

Flesh n Bone's teenage daughter is apparently missing. Hip Hop Wired reports:

The teenage daughter of rapper Flesh-N-Bone is missing, reports TMZ.

Monica Howse, 15, has been missing since a week ago, when she was taken to work at a Taco Bell near Big Bear Lake, Calif. Authorities in San Bernardino County have reached out to the public to help find the young girl who is believed to be with a man by the name of Alberto Silva Sanchez.  The 23-year-old drives  a 1997 black Ford F150 with Kansas license plates, but it is unclear whether he and Howse are romantically involved.

"We hope and pray for the safe return of our daughter. We ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to please contact the authorities," Flesh told TMZ.

As a member of Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, Flesh has had his share of run-ins with the law. Last December he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife, but copped a plea to get out of doing jail time.  His fellow group members have also had their share of bad luck, with Krayzie Bone being arrested on suspicion of DUI last Friday (July 27), but he has since been released.

Police are asking that anyone with information on Howse's whereabouts contact the Detective's Bureau of the Big Bear Sheriff's Station at 909-866-0100.

Here's hoping she is returned home safe and sound.

WWE aplogize to Kobe Bryant after Abraham Washongton remarks

I was actually watching Raw this past Monday and missed the joke but caught Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler's apologies. Well, the WWE has officially given Kobe Bryant their apologies now. Hip Hop Wired reports:

The WWE is under a little bit of fire for making an off color remark about Kobe Bryant last night during it's trademark show, Monday Night Raw. During a match between WWE superstars Kofi Kingston and Titus O'Neill, manager Abraham Washington (who was wearing a live microphone) said O'Neill was "like Kobe Bryant at a hotel room in Colorado … he's unstoppable."

The comment was a reference to Bryant's 2003 s*xual assault case — when he was accused of r*ping a woman in his hotel room in Eagle, Colorado. Washington later tweeted “I would like to apologize to all the #WWEUniverse for my inappropriate and insensitive remark. I went too far with that joke." AW continued, "There was no malicious intent behind the joke. It was either a Kobe or Lebron joke. Lebron jus won the Finals so there you have it.”

WWE is to have said to take appropriate action for the remark, but didn't specify what those actions will be.

Lupe Fiasco goes home, while the city's violent war rages on

Lupe Fiasco has really been making the rounds lately with his new single "B*tch Bad". He recently stopped by Windy City Live and was allowed to set the record straight about a lot of his most recent controversial comments: Hip Hop Wired reports:

During an interview with Windy City Live, Lupe Fiasco clarified what he meant when he said "97% of Hip-Hop is terrible" in a recent interview he held with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club. Lupe stood behind his opinion of  mainstream rap, and stated that though peripherally the overall quality of Hip-Hop has improved, the genre has degenerated on the inside due to a lack of substance.
"I think the substance of it. I think technically, it's great," said Fiasco. "The music is as well-produced as it's ever been, videos are as polished, the chains are as clean, the models are as beautiful as they've ever been… But then you get into the substance of the records. The majority of commercial Hip-Hop – most of what everybody sees is commercial Hip-Hop – is lacking substance. Terribly.”
The "Paris Tokyo" rapper added that there is an in unequivocal scale in Hip-Hop that is leading to the decadence of the genre, and that because  heterogeneity in Hip-Hop is missing, people are not receiving a musically balanced experience when they listen today's mainstream artists.
“I think there should be a balance. On the radio, you turn it on and every other record is referring that Itchbay, that negative lifestyle. There's a premium kind of put on the things that are somewhat whimsical but at the same time dangerous. It's funny. Over the past 10 years, the things in Hip Hop that we've allowed to become the norm. It's kind of taboo at a certain point to address a certain issue. And the artists that did it, people like Eminem, you knew they were all through the roof because it was so exotic and so through the roof.”

But, while Lupe is making his rounds, the violence in Chicago continues:

Two men have been killed, and seven others were wounded during multiple overnight shootings on the West and South sides of Chicago, Tuesday (July 31). According to police, two men were standing with a group on the 1000 block of North Lawler Ave., when gunshots rang out, hitting them both. One of the bystanders,  Quincey Simmons, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Another 18-year-old man was hit in the thigh and taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital. He is listed in good condition.

Another shooting took the life of 32-year-old Victor Coleman, who was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, after sustaining several gunshot wounds. Coleman was walking when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting.  Also on the city's West Side, a 16-year-old boy was hit in the hip, when a person inside a car driving by his house, opened fire.

Less than an hour later, a 26-year-old was waiting for his girlfriend in his car when two gunmen approached him from behind and started shooting. 15 minutes later on the South Side, two gunmen ran up on a 24-year-old victim shooting him in the lower back. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is in stable condition.

Meanwhile, an armed robbery in the neighborhood known as West Englewood left two men wounded. The men were standing in an alley at around 11:05 p.m. when they were confronted by a group looking to rob them. The men tried to run away but were shot in the backside and the hip. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center, and police have questioned four men about the shooting.

Also, on Tuesday (July 30), the Chicago Tribune reported that a 42-year-old man was shot and killed in his driveway.

Several shootings have occurred in the city throughout the summer. Last week, six people were shot over a 15-minute time span.

Money Mayweather to be released sooner than expected

The Money Team will be back in effect soon enough...well, maybe everyone except for Ray-J. Anyway, Hip Hop Wired reports:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be coming home much sooner than anyone expected. After serving two months in jail for a domestic battery case, records show that the 35-year-old undefeated welterweight boxing champion is due for release Friday from the Clark County Detention Center.

Originally sentenced to 90 days in the big house, Mayweather Jr. will be released from prison due to good behavior.  Mayweather Jr. surrendered for jail on June 1st after pleading guilty in December to misdemeanor charges in a September 2010 scuffle with his girlfriend, Josie Harris, while two of their children watched.

The leader of the "Money Team" reached a plea deal that avoided a trial on felony charges that could have gotten Mayweather up to 34 years in prison. The boxer's camp attempted to spring him from jail early last month claiming that his health was suffering irreversible damage which would keep him from making a living.

Mayweather Jr. could be out as early as midnight tonight.

EBC shut down by the NYPD

It looks like the EBC may be done, at least for the rest of the summer. Hip Hop Wired reports:

On July 30th, the NYPD prevented the Entertainers Basketball Classic from commencing, citing safety concerns, reports DNAInfo. Last week, a suspect now identified as Ricardo Laing of White Plains, NY, shot five people during the tournament held at the legendary Holcombe Rucker Park in Harlem. Despite additional security being acquired by the tournament's organizers, the authorities were not having it, and the schedule games were cancelled.

"They came in here and said you have to get out," said Entertainers founder and CEO Greg Marius. "It's unfair. We are an international tournament."

According to Marius, the usually violence free tournament is being unfairly stigmatized.
Marius said he felt police were trying to force him to get people to cooperate with the investigation, a power he feels he doesn't have.
Police did not immediately comment Monday evening.
Hundreds of people could be seen running during a video of the shooting posted on WorldStarHipHop.com. NBA free agent and former New York Knick Nate Robinson was at the event but was not injured.
Marius said that on the day of the shooting there were fewer police officers and fewer metal barricades than in years past.
On Monday, two police officers stood near the entrance to the court, and a mobile command center and police van and car also sat outside the park.
Marius said the NYPD's refusal to let the tournament continue was confusing because the alleged shooter is in custody and the gathering is normally free from violence.
"The last fist fight was in 1995 and we've never had a shooting," Marius said. "The movie theater is still open," he added, referring to the Aurora, Colo. shooting at a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises."
Marius said three NBA players were interested in stopping by the tournament this week.
"They are not afraid because they know we are a safe tournament," Marius said.
Some of the disappointed fans that came out to see yesterday's games included players from a basketball all the way in Italy.
