Ochocinco was booked into Florida's Broward County Jail, and faced a judge early Sunday (Aug. 12). The
34-year-old is not allowed to have contact with his wife, whom he is
said to have attacked following a verbal altercation. According to his
lawyer, Adam Swickle, the no contact order is common practice in domestic violence cases.
The couple tied the knot last month, but ran into trouble when Lozada
found a receipt for condoms, and confronted him about it Saturday (Aug.
11). She reportedly ran to a neighbor's house and called police, when
the incident turned physical.
While neither party has spoken out about the situation, Ochocinco's
team, the Miami Dolphins, released a statement on his arrest. "We are
aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the
relevant information," said the statement.
The Dolphins have practice this afternoon, but Ochocinco is not expected to be out of jail in time.
Lozada and Ochocinco met on Twitter, and landed their own VH1 reality
show chronicling their relationship and wedding, which is expected to
premiere in a few weeks.
Ochocinco claims that he head-butted Lozada by accident.
According to a source the receiver has been let go from the Miami Dolphins, one day after he was arrested for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada.
Ochocinco was released from custody Sunday (Aug. 12), and missed practice with the Dolphins.
Following the altercation, the team released a statement that they
were "aware" of the incident but "in the process of gathering all the
relevant information." A piece of that "information" may have been a
report that the 34-year-old said he didn't "give a f-ck" about his
career during the argument with Lozada, which occurred after she found a
receipt for condoms, possibly belonging to her husband of a month.
***UPDATE***
Add another item to the list of things contributing to the downward spiral of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson's life—and career. VH1 has announced that its cancelling the reality show Ev & Ocho, after he was arrested for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada, over the weekend.
While the world thought that the awkward struggle of the 34-year-old hit its peak when he was dropped from the Miami Dolphins,
the very same day that he was released from jail, VH1 proved that when
it rains, it pours.“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and
the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev & Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” the network said in a statement.
Johnson and his wife tied the knot just last month, in an elaborate
island ceremony. They reportedly got into an argument over a condom
receipt belonging to the wide receiver. Lozada confronted him, an
argument ensued, and rather than walking away, he used his head as a
weapon.
Lozada, who shot to fame thanks to her many confrontations on the show Basketball Wives, went to the hospital with lacerations on her head.
Both she and her husband are not allowed to have contact with one
another, which is customary practice in domestic violence situations.
