President Obama responsible for releasing homo demons

First of all, as a Christian I must say, I am sincerely disappointed by the ignorance displayed by churches in regards to the homosexual community. Now, I'm not here to advocate homosexuality, but I refuse to advocate hatred toward anyone or any group of people. This church should be ashamed of themselves for using the church as a vehicle to drive ignorance and hatred in the community. Hip Hop Wired reports:

The ATLAH Worldwide Missionary Church out of Harlem have voiced their opinion loud and clear in extremist fashion by accusing the president of releasing "homo demons" into the Black community for white homosexuals to swoop in and steal Mandingo meat from right underneath the Black woman's clutches.

Outside the church, the headlining Billboard reads: "Obama Has Released The Homo Demons On The Black Man. Look Out Black Woman. A White Homo May Take Your Man."

Where race and President Obama fall into the equation of homosexuality is lost on many, including Rochelle Hill, who told NYDailyNews that "It's just appalling It's a poor representation of our neighborhood. It's just hate."

The church's pastor, James David Manning has taken President Obama's policies to task in recent years and rationalized the sign's presence by saying he is simply seeking to preserve the African-American family.

“It's an attempt to save the black family, he told the NYDailyNews "There is a major problem in the black family with the absence of black fathers, black husbands."

Pharrell shuts down talk over GIRL album cover; claims trying to be Jay-Z and Diddy made his music purposeless

Salute to my guy Pharrell! This cat has the biggest record out right now, "Happy" and seems like he has rejuvenated purpose for not only making music, but for living. Recently, "Black Twitter" was in an uproar because of the lack of Black women on Pharrell's album cover. Well, not only is there a Black woman on the cover, she is a girl he used to date in the early 2000s. Pharrell also recently spoke with GQ magazine about how trying to follow the paths of Jay-Z and Diddy caused his spirit to sink. Hip Hop Wired reports:

P called into Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club this morning (Feb. 27) to kill the noise surrounding the album artwork, and it turns out that there is a black woman among the three beauties.

"What really disappointed me is they jumped the gun, because the one I'm standing closest to is black," he said. "She's a black girl from Wisconsin that I used to date over ten years ago. Maybe twelve years ago. That just must suck man for people to look at something and to assume they know what's going on."

After throwing in a quick plug for the album, he flipped the perspective. Instead of focussing on the Twitter fire ignited by journalist Dream Hampton, and others expressing their sheer disappointment at the artwork, he pointed out how the woman in the picture feels.

"Man, it must suck to be that black woman that's on my cover right now because she's black. When they find out that she is black, then what? Then we're arguing amongst ourselves within color. Then the argument's going to be she's not brown enough."

He also had a few questions, "Then my question to you is, are y'all asking me do I have an Indian person on the cover? Why aren't you asking about a Pakistani person? A Middle Eastern person on the cover?"

And Pharrell's recent interview with GQ:

“I wrote those songs out of ego. Talking about the money I was making and the by-products of living that lifestyle. What was good about that? What'd you get out of it? There was no purpose. I was so under the wrong impression at that time.”

“The money was too loud. The success was too much. The girls were too beautiful. The jewelry was too shiny. The cars were too fast. The houses were too big. It's like not knowing how to swim and being thrown in the ocean for the first time. Everything is just too crazy. You're like, flailing and kicking and whatever, and you know what happens, don't you? You sink. My spirit sank. I just felt like, ‘F-ck, what am I doing?' ”

“That was just bragging. I wanted to be like Jay. I wanted to be like Puff. Those are their paths. I got my own path. But I didn't know what my path was. I knew that I was meant to do something different. I knew that I needed to inject purpose in my music.”

The feature story also has Pharrell explaining his new album's title ("I instantly knew that the name of the album was called G I R L, and the reason why is because women and girls, for the most part, have just been so loyal to me and supported me," he said), and more.

Raymond Felton is released on $25,000 bond

This story screams has "revenge of a scorned woman" written all over it. A man gets arrested for felony possession of a gun, for a gun that he wasn't even in possession of at the time, because his estranged wife decided to turn it in to the police? Got to be more careful! Hip Hop Wired reports:

Details are emerging in what led to the arrest of Raymond Felton, who is free on $25,000 bail after he was arraigned yesterday (February 25) in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The New York Knicks point guard was arrested after the lawyer of his soon to be ex-wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, turned in his unregistered handgun to authorities.

Reports the New York Daily News:

Busted Knicks point guard Raymond Felton grew increasingly erratic over the last several months — “aggressively” holding a handgun during a Valentine's Day clash with his wife as their 19-month marriage crumbled.

Ariane Raymondo-Felton, 26, told cops she was going through a divorce and that she feared her husband might harm himself, sources told the Daily News. Her lawyer took the gun, which had been stashed under the bed at the Feltons' Upper West Side apartment, to the 20th Precinct stationhouse about 5 p.m. Monday.

The Belgian-made semiautomatic handgun was loaded with 18 armor-piercing bullets.

Reportedly, Felton never said that he intended to harm himself or threatened his wife. He was charged with two counts of weapons possession for the unregistered gun and illegal gun clip, which are both felonies. The former University of North Carolina player faces a max sentence of 2 1/3 to 7 years in jail if he is convicted.

Judge Diana Boyer set a six-month order of protection to keep Felton away from his wife. The condition of his bail do allow him to travel, and the Knicks are scheduled to play the Miami Heat in Miami tomorrow.

Slim Thug receives his own day in Houston

If there was ever a city in this country that has embraced and supported the hip-hop figures that were bred in their city, Houston would be that city. From Bun B and Scarface, to Trae tha Truth and now Slim Thug. The city of Houston offers Slim Thug his own day. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Slim Thug, who was recently honored with his own day; "Thugga Day," on February 25.

Council Member Jerry Davis and Mayor Annise D. Parker organized the entire event in light of Slim Thug's contributions to the community, especially in his old neighborhood Scenic Woods. For the 6'6" rapper giving back is a no-brainer as he stated, "Every year, I do toy drives and turkey give-a-ways for underprivileged kids in my hood. I know what it's like to have a mom that works more than one job just to provide for her family, so I just play my part in helping those single mothers out."

Slim Thug, born Stayve Thomas, first hit the national scene in 2005 when he guest starred on Mike Jones' "Still Tippin'" record, and then pollinated his regional sound with The Neptunes by signing to their Star Trak label and releasing his debut album, Already Platinum.

Professional wrestler passes away from a heart attack

Anyone that knows me, knows I was a huge wrestling fan growing up. Now there wasn't a whole lot of successful Black wrestlers, but there were a few. One of which has seemingly passed away of a heart attack. Hip Hop Wired reports:

Sad news for WWE and wrestling fans. Big Daddy V died on Tuesday night (February 18) from an apparent heart attack. He was 42.

Reports TMZ Sports:

The WWE issued a statement confirming Frazier's death -- saying, "Our deepest condolences go out to Frazier's family, friends and fans."

During his run in the WWE, Frazier -- who also went by the name Mabel -- was a World Tag Team Champion, Hardcore Champion and the 1995 King of the Ring.

Big Daddy V's friend MVP tweeted out his condolences after learning of his death -- writing, "I'm going to put one in the air for my fallen colleague Big Vis. This sh*t always sucks but some suck more than others."

Nas rides high off celebrating the 20 Year Anniversary of Illmatic

Nas is having a great start to 2014. Not only is he prepping the release of an album in April and for a performance at Cochella, he recently had a stop at the Tribecca Film Festival to drop his new documentary and even managed to patch things up with former rival, Cam'ron. Hip Hop Wired reports:

A new documentary, Time Is Illmatic, about the Queensbridge rapper's debut album will be the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival's opening night film.

The doc traces the creation of Nas' seminal debut album, Illmatic, which was released 20 years ago. The TFF announced today (February 19) that it would be making the film's world premiere on Wednesday, April 16.

Following the film's debut will be a special performance by Nas of the entire Illmatic album, as he plans to do at Coachella, too. Time Is Illmatic was directed by One9, a multimedia artist, and written by well-respected journalist Erik Parker. Both, along with Anthony Saleh, are producers of the film, which came to fruition thanks to The Ford Foundation's Just Films and Tribeca Film Institute's Tribeca All Access program..

"I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they've built over the years," said Nas in a press statement. "It's an honor to premiere this film in my hometown. I also want to thank One9 and Erik Parker for their persistence and hard work. Those guys and I come from the same place and era, which gives the doc an authenticity that is important to me. We wanted this film to represent the real, from the storyline all the way down to the directors and producers."

And with Cam:

The two rap kings haven't sparred in some time but they weren't exactly chummy either. Feelings change like the seasons however, and the two crossed paths today (Feb. 17).

But like grown men, there was no was living in the past. Nas is still championing the phrase "life as good" as his Illmatic documentary will kick off the Tribeca Film Festival with a bang.

Cam'ron, who is in at Agenda Las Vegas, was still wearing his MDR hat from the event and posted the pic with his trademark caption, "#QB #HARLEM #UwasntThere."

50 Cent leaves Shady/Aftermath/Interscope for an independent deal with Capitol

I have long argued that 50 Cent is undoubtedly one of the smartest business men in hip hop, and that he is right up there with Russell Simmons, Diddy, Master P and Jay-Z. Though I think he should've pulled this trigger a long time ago, his decision to go independent is still a great business move. Hip Hop Wired reports:

In 12 years with the labels, the Queens native sold over 30 million records worldwide, won GRAMMY awards, and more importantly (depending on your point of view) had a resounding effect on Hip-Hop. But in recent years, 50's vocalized his displeasure with how Interscope didn't see his still unreleased Street King Immortal album as a priority project.

In turn, the Forbes "Hip-Hop Kings" list regular took his talents to Caroline, a division of Capitol Music Group/Universal Music Group. There, he signed an exclusive worldwide distribution and services agreement, which gives him creative control over forthcoming releases.

"We are thrilled to welcome 50 Cent and G-Unit to our family. 50 is simply one of the most accomplished and creative artists, and his plans for the future are as exciting and innovative as you can imagine," said Caroline President Dominic Pandiscia before thanking the rap star. "I'd also like to thank everyone at Shady/Aftermath and Interscope, particularly Eminem and Dr. Dre, for offering their endorsement and support of our involvement with 50 Cent and G-Unit."

50 had some words of his own. "I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope and I'd like to thank Eminem and Dr. Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity. I've learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision," he said.
