If there was ever a city in this country that has embraced and supported the hip-hop figures that were bred in their city, Houston would be that city. From Bun B and Scarface, to Trae tha Truth and now Slim Thug. The city of Houston offers Slim Thug his own day. Hip Hop Wired reports:
Slim Thug, who was recently honored with his own day; "Thugga Day," on February 25.
Council Member Jerry Davis and Mayor Annise D. Parker organized the entire event in light of Slim Thug's contributions to the community, especially in his old neighborhood Scenic Woods. For the 6'6" rapper giving back is a no-brainer as he stated, "Every year, I do toy drives and turkey give-a-ways for underprivileged kids in my hood. I know what it's like to have a mom that works more than one job just to provide for her family, so I just play my part in helping those single mothers out."
Slim Thug, born Stayve Thomas, first hit the national scene in 2005 when he guest starred on Mike Jones' "Still Tippin'" record, and then pollinated his regional sound with The Neptunes by signing to their Star Trak label and releasing his debut album, Already Platinum.
