If you're going to attack a football player, you may want to use something more than just a taser gun and a bottle. I guess it ain't all good, even in paradise. Pro Bowler Trent Williams was attacked in a Honolulu night club. NFL.com reports:
The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday afternoon that rookie left tackle Matt Kalil would replace an injured Trent Williams in the Pro Bowl.
Williams played through a severely bruised thigh, in addition to knee and ankle injuries for much of the season. As it turns out, however, coach Mike Shanahan's top offensive lineman required stitches after an altercation early Friday morning.
Local police said Williams was hurt in an altercation that injured three men, sending two to the hospital. One man was arrested and five others are being investigated for assault, police said.
When asked if Williams was being investigated for assault as well, Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said, via USA Today: "I would not say that."
The NFL said in a statement, via ProFootballTalk, that the third-year pro will be on the sideline for Sunday's Pro Bowl and won't lose his status as a member of the NFC team. Officials say he'll be paid a full Pro Bowl share.
Williams had been in Honolulu all week, practicing for his first Pro Bowl appearance. Williams joins Robert Griffin III as the second member of the Redskins to withdraw from Sunday's festivities due to injury.
This is not the first time Williams has been in the news for off-the-field activities. He was suspended for the final four games of the 2011 season after failing multiple drug tests.
UPDATE: Captain Andrew Lum of the Office of the Chief for the Honolulu Police Department released a statement on the altercation:
"At 1:30 a.m. this morning, Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers responded to a report of a large affray at a night club in central Honolulu. Three males were injured during the affray. Two were treated and released from the hospital, and the third male declined treatment. One male was arrested for Assault in the 3rd Degree and additional arrests are likely. The HPD has opened an Assault 2nd and four Assault 3rd investigations. The investigation into these offenses continue."
