Mama Wes, mother of Pimp C passes away at 66

This one kind of hits a little close to home. I had a chance to chop it up a bit with Mama Wes when her and Hezeleo called in to an episode of Dirty Rotten Radio in late 2009. So I have to give a huge R.I.P. shout out to Ms. Wesley Monroe! Vibe.com has more on the story:

Weslyn "Mama Wes" Monroe, the mother of the late rapper Pimp C, passed away in his hometown Port Arthur, Texas, allegedly due to serious illness Monday morning (August 19), the Houston Press reports. She was 66.

Bun B, who comprised UGK alongside Pimp C, announced the unfortunate news on Instagram.

"Thanks to everyone that has sent prayers and condolences," said Bun. "She was a great woman. Nurture us from boys to men and made us strong enough to handle this industry. She was the one that kept us going when we didn't wanna go anymore. She was the backbone of UGK, the definition of loyalty, the personification of unconditional love and the essence of what being Trill really meant. She's finally reunited with her son. God bless you both. RIP Mama Wes. You gave everything to make us Underground Kings."
