Occupy The Hood comes to Dallas on 11/11/11

The Urban Advocate will be out in the streets on Friday, November 11, 2011, to show support for the worldwide 'Occupy' movement! As you should know by now, people have been occupying some of the biggest cities around the world and now, Occupy The Hood is now making it's way across the United Sates. We will be there, if you are available and in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area on 11/11/11, we ask that you come out and show support. Here's a message from the programs' organizers:

ON 11/11/11, THE HOOD STANDS UP AND SPEAKS OUT IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS FIGHTING FOR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE IN OCCUPIED CITIES AROUND THE WORLD.

We'll start gathering at JFK Memorial (646 Main Street
Dallas, TX 75202) at 11:30am and march to City Hall (1500 Marilla St
Dallas, TX 75226) at 12:00 noon, where we'll have speakers from throughout the community addressing the people and an open mic afterwards. We'll be having talks and workshops throughout the weekend which will be listed as they're added. Our brothers and sisters from Occupy Dallas have been occupying since October 6th. They're currently camping out behind city hall and will be there until it gets shut down or their demands are met. Those that can and decide to occupy in solidarity with them; more power to y'all.

The goal of Occupy the Hood is to encourage people of color (POC) to become http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifmore involved in the Occupy movement which has spread around the world. This movement has garnered international media attention and gives us POC an opportunity to bring struggles we've been involved in for generations, to the spotlight.

COME OUT AND REP YOUR HOOD. MAKE YOUR DEMANDS. THE WORLD IS WATCHING.
